FORMULATION:

Each 5 mL (1 tsp.) contains:

Thiamine Hydrochloride (VITAMIN B1) ………… 100 mg
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (VITAMIN B6) ………… 5 mg
Cyanocobalamin (VITAMIN B12) ………… 50 mcg

DESCRIPTION:

VITAMINS B1+B6+B12 (POLYNERV™ Syrup) is a once a day, high potency formulation of the most important neurotrophic and growth factors, vitamins B1, B6 and B12.

PROPERTIES AND ACTIONS:

Water soluble vitamins like, B1, B6 & B12, are frequently lacking in unbalanced diets. Even children who take substantial amounts of the B vitamins in the diet may still suffer from deficiency disorders due to impaired B vitamins absorption (as in excessive vomiting, prolonged antibiotic theraphy) and intake of certain agents which interfere with the utilization of B vitamins (i.e. isoniazid).

Normal cellular activities depend on the availability of biochemical energy derived mainly from the metabolism or transformation of nutrients. Vitamins B1, B6, & B12 as coenzymes, help the enzymes accelerate the various metabolic processes which produce energy. This energy is used to fuel the cellular activities of the body.

The metabolic events which vitamins B1, B6 & B12 play dominant roles as cofactors make possible the conversion of food nutrients (carbohydrates, fats and proteins) into utilizable substances needed for synthesis of body tissues and compounds of the body. Formation of body tissues and compounds effects growth manifested as weight gain and height increase.

It is also believed that vitamins B1, B6 & B12 possess neurotrophic properties. Vitamins B1, B6 & B12 activate specific biochemical pathways involved in normal nervous system physiology.

Thiamine (Vitamin B1) operates inside the body as cocarboxylase, a coenzyme involved in the intermediary metabolism of glucose in the cells of the body. Thiamine, helps metabolize glucose to produce energy. Glucose is the body’s major source of energy. It also ensures the storage of energy as fat, and the conversion of glucose into other substances such as ribose, a major component of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which is involved in cellular replication.

Thiamine is essential for maintaining proper functioning of the three major systems of the body. It makes energy available to support normal growth and to fuel the activities of the central nervous system, secretory glands and the smooth muscle cells of the gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system. Thiamine improves muscle tone of the intestines, stomach and heart.

Glucose provides the basic nutritional needs of nervous system. The cells of the central nervous system depend exclusively on glucose as its chief fuel source. Thiamine is said to optimize brain function and cognitive activity thereby exerting a positive effect on the child’s learning capacity.

Independent of its coenzyme function, VITAMIN B1 acts as a modulator in the transmission of neural impulses.

Effects of thiamine deficiency include fatigue, constipation, irritability, headache and mental confusion.

Pyridoxal Phosphate, the active form of Vitamin B6 plays a key role in the metabolism of amino acids. Amino acids as building blocks of proteins, are in turn necessary for the formation of tissues and regulatory compounds of the body. Specifically, pyridoxal phosphate participates in the synthesis of heme and globin which are components of the hemoglobin molecule.

Vitamin B6 is required as a cofactor in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, GABA and epinephrine which are all important regulatory substances of the nervous system. Vitamin B6 is required as a cofactor in the synthesis of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter derived from glutamic acid, is important in maintaining the normal activity of the brain.

GABA decreases neuronal activity and inhibits nerve cells from overfiring. The threshold for seizures is lowered when the brain concentration of GABA is reduced in vitamin B6 deficiency.

Pyridoxine deficiency disturbs cerebral metabolism and causes abnormal nervous system function with hyperirritability, neuritis and possibly convulsions.

Vitamin B6 supplementation is important in the management of anemia and also for those patients who are being treated with isoniazid (INH), a widely used anti-tuberculosis drug. Excessive dose of INH can induce B6 deficiency because INH interferes with utilization of B6 by forming a hydrazone with pyridoxal.

Polynerv syrup gives substantial concentration of Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12). Vitamin B12 acts as a coenzyme of nucleic acid metabolism, reducing ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, a step that is essential in gene replication and formation of new cells. Vitamin B12 is therefore an important growth factor. It also promotes the formation and maturation of red blood cells in the bone marrow.

The physical and mental well-being of the growing child largely depends upon the maintenance of a normally functioning nervous system.

High potency Vitamins B1, B6 & B12 (POLYNERV™ Syrup) enhance nourishment of neuronal cells and promote normal nervous system physiology. Optimum nutrition of neuronal cells is a must in the management of diseases affecting the nervous sysytem. If the neuronal cells are deprived of the basic nuritional needs, cellular reactions will be impaired and the physiologic activities of the other organs will be affected.

The B vitamins, by virtue of their biologic function as metabolic activiators, provide a natural neurotrophic support in the management of disorders arising from increased tissue demands. They are also useful in situations when there is increased requirement for energy as in growth, strenuous physical activities, stress during illnesses such as hypermetabolic states and infectious diseases.

INDICATIONS:

VITAMINS B1, B6 & B12 (POLYNERV™ Syrup) is valuable in conditions where the requirements for B vitamins are increased (as in growth, physiologic stress, decreased resistance to infection and chronic illnesses, metabolic disorders and in certain diseases of the digestive tract and nervous system). It can also be given before and after surgical procedures.

VITAMINS B1, B6 & B12 (POLYNERV™ Syrup) is indicated for the prevention and treatment of deficiency disorders arising from poor dietary intake, impaired B vitamins absorption (as in prolonged diarrhea, excessive vomiting and antibiotic therapy) intake of drugs which interfere with the utilization of the B vitamins (i.e. isoniazid).

As a nutritional supplement to promote appetite, weight gain and height increase.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

1-2 years old : 2.5 mL (1/2 teaspoon) daily
3-6 years old : 5.0 mL (1 teaspoonful) daily
7-12 years old : 10.0 mL (2 teaspoonfuls) daily
